THE FLOWERS OF YESTERYEAR

2024

Late for the Train’s sophomore album, The Flowers of Yesteryear, was released on April 12, 2024. CDs and vinyl are available in the shop.

The Flowers of Yesteryear explores the simple pleasures of life and the melange of longing, loss, and joy we feel when we wake up one day to find those pleasures are gone.

Featuring an all-star cast of guest performers, this 10-track record highlights the band’s diverse writing style, with songs ranging from hard-driving bluegrass to texturally subtle jazz. Built on a strong acoustic foundation and enriched by the addition of drums, saxophone, clarinet, pedal steel, piano, electric guitar, and resonator guitar, the result is a lush and expansive album that employs the power of ensemble to explore stories old and new.

PLANT IT OR BUILD IT

2020

Late for the Train’s debut album, Plant It or Build It, was released on September 4th, 2020. CDs and vinyl are available in the shop.

Plant It or Build It is as much an homage to nature and travel as it is to the romance of songwriters David Pascoe and Laura Benson. Recorded mostly live in a converted home in Big Sur by Ky Takikawa (Pocket Fox) and mastered by Adrian Dolan (The Wailin’ Jennys), the 10-track record doesn’t take long to welcome you in. Each deceptively simple song carries the listener through a full range of emotions and themes. The ensemble’s skillful craftsmanship meets tender harmonies and potent lyrics that grapple with all the wonder, contradiction, and truth of living in the modern age.
